Instagram, like any other social network, is based around having friends or followers. On Instagram you ‘follow’ people. At the top of your profile (or anyone’s profile) you will see the username, profile pic, how many photos have been uploaded, how many followers the account has, and how many they are following.
Instagram lets you see which of your twitter and facebook friends are using instagram and easily start following them. There is also a ‘Invite Friends’ feature, but that simply links to your address book ~ and the rest is up to you. Instagram will also suggest users if you like.
Instagram describes itself as a “simple way to capture and share the world’s moments.” The library is using this social media platform to showcase a range of perspectives. Among others - a breath of fresh air with snapshots of literary delights and shelfies. We could show our spaces, displays, architecture, collections, events, staff, and users. The images and videos that appear on our IG account tell a collective story of the vital role that the library plays in the community with the hope to inspire visitors to view the library as a frequent destination.
